Bambous kanak

Exhibition scenography for the Geneva Museum of Ethnography - February 29, 2008 to March 15, 2009 - Among the most original works of Kanak art are the engraved bamboos of New Caledonia. The Geneva Museum of Ethnography has one of the most beautiful ensembles in the world, studied by Marguerite Lobsiger-Dellenbach, who was director of the museum between 1952 and 1967. Used as a travel stick by the ancients when they ventured outside their village, these engraved bamboos, entirely covered with abstract and figurative patterns, are supports for memory and stories illustrating the multiple aspects of Kanak life, including understood the advent of colonization.
